Spiced Poached Pears of The Season

Make your festive preparations delightful with this in-season pears delicately poached in a spiced syrup. Let the spices do its magic while you are busy decking the halls.

~ Gather Your Ingredients ~

4-5 Bosc or Conference Pears
4 cups water
1/2 cup brown sugar
5-6 Chola Cardamom pods [Add to cart]
1 Andapa Vanilla Bean [Add to cart]
1 Kandy Cinnamon  [Add to cart]
1 slice orange peel
4-5 tbsp freshly-squeezed juice of orange

~ Preparation Instructions ~

1. Wash, peel and halve the pears. 

2. In a large sauce pan/pot, combine the water, brown sugar, the spices and orange peel. Bring it to simmer until the sugar is dissolved.

3. Add the pears and make sure they are submerged in the liquid. Allow the pears to cook for about 15-20 minutes un til slightly soft. You would not want the pears to be too mushy.

4. Remove the pears and set aside in a plate. Allow it to cool while you continue to simmer the liquid in the pan.

5. Add the orange juice and then in medium to high heat, reduce the liquid until a syrup-like consistency is reached.

6. Once done, remove the vanilla pods and the broken cinnamon sticks from the syrup.

7. Spoon the syrup over the pears and enjoy alongside a scoop of vanilla ice-cream or over Crème anglaise.
