A slow, overnight cold brewed coffee infused with freshly crushed cardamom pods. This is a recipe to keep for your first warm day of the year.
Cardamom Cold Brew Coffee
FOR THE CARDAMOM COLD BREW CONCENTRATE
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1 cup coarse-ground coffee
- 8 Chola Cardamom Pods (finely ground)
COLD BREW COFFEE
- 2 cups filtered water
- Milk or dairy
- Sweetener of choice
- Ice
- Combine the water, coffee and powdered cardamom in a mason jar. Tightly close the lid and shake well. Let it brew overnight for a minimum 12 hours and up to 24 hours. The longer it is left to brew the stronger the flavour.
- Strain the cold brew concentrate through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth or a coffee filter. Discard the grounds. The cold brew concentrate should be refrigerated to enjoy multiple cups of cold brew coffee.
- To make your cold brew coffee, mix equal parts cold brew concentrate (about 80 ml for one serving) with equal parts filtered water (80 ml).
- Pour it over ice and add your choice of milk or dairy alternate and sweetener. We used a teaspoon of maple syrup to enhance the flavour.
- Stir and sip.
